HOW ‘BRUTAL’ ARE YOU….?

by | Private Practice Management

Apparently I am very ‘brutal’ – or so I’m told 🙂

I recently learnt (through the grapevine) that I have been referred to as a ‘ball crusher’ – no, not in a personal capacity! but in my role as a private practice owner.

Yip, you heard that right, ‘Ball crusher’ in that I rule with an iron fist, taking no nonsense from anyone.

My first reaction was to burst out laughing, as this is sooooo not true.

But in typical psychologist style, I had to make the time to reflect on this statement as it was telling me what perception people had of me out there in the allied health industry.

Of course, perception is just that – someone else’s perception – but still.

And then earlier this week it all became clear to me…..

I was going through all the applications for the position I’m currently advertising on InDeed for a Personal Assistant to support me in running Private Practice Success Australia – and trust me there were heaps.

I found myself pressing the ‘Reject’ tab on the InDeed Dashboard time after time after time after time – which is very annoying, as I really need a Personal Assistant – but I was being ‘brutal’….

How?

Well, I made it clear in my advert that only applications with a Cover Letter would be considered, and 90% of the applicants did not include one, which to me shows a lack of motivation and interest in the role as well as a lack of attention to detail – and all of these are qualities I require in someone that will be working so closely with me.

Thing is, sometimes in business, you have no choice but to be ‘brutal’.

And with ‘brutal’ I don’t mean ruthless or any other negative synonym that makes it sound like you are a heartless b%tch.

With ‘brutal’ I mean being determined to do what needs to be done.

With ‘brutal’ I mean being brave enough to make aligned decisions even in the face of fear.

With ‘brutal’ I mean not giving in to a scarcity or desperation mindset but acting IN abundance.

So answer me this…..

How ‘brutal’ are YOU in….

  • Your decision-making?
  • In ensuring you are the best you can be?
  • Not making excuses?
  • Not accepting excuses?
  • Pushing through when you have nothing left?
  • Knowing when it is time to pivot – time to change – time to stop?

Be sure to let me know….
